Bayer selected Shanghai Chemical Industry Park as the location to establish its world-scale integrated production site – the Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai in 1996. The site occupies a total area of 1.5 square kilometres. It is the largest and most important production site for Bayer MaterialScience in the Asia Pacific region.
The Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai covers the production facilities in polycarbonates, polyurethanes as well as coating, adhesives raw materials. The site applies the most advanced process technologies that meet or exceed international standards. Moreover, it complies with the most stringent industrial safety and environmental protection standards.
With the strong focus in Asia Pacific market, especially the China market, in December 2010, Bayer MaterialScience announced a further investment of approximated 1 billion euro in Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai, planning to establish 5 new projects over the next 5 years. By 2016, the total investment for the site will exceed 3 billion euros.
